| How it all began... In February 2008 we visited one of the traditional workshops in the Ore Maountains (Erzgebirge) that are well-know for the fantastic wood-made folk art. They really make fantistic things but one gnom figure was really ugly, at least in our eyes. But this may be a matter of taste. Being creative and doing handicraft works made of wood had always been a hobby. So the idea arose do create a own figure. A up-coming birthday in juni 2008 was a welcome event to create a handmade present. No sooner said than done: The first prototype of a figure was created. Later on the first figure: the Felicitor in love had been created for the birthday on June 29th 2008.
After the first two Männels came into the world the whole thing became a kind of self-runner and a hobby to achieve balance for the computer and desk work. Soon also the name "Maiksmännel" was found. |
